Opium poppy Cutworm: Agrotis spp
Symptoms of damage:
- Larva cut the younger plant at the base above the ground level.
- Larva remains concealed in cracks in the ground and active at night.
Identification of the pest:
- Larva is dark brown with the red coloured head.
- Adult – brown in colour and dark colour spots on the wings
Management:
- Hand pick the caterpillars and destroy
- Spray NSKE 5%
- Poison bait with rice bran, jiggery and carbaryl can be used
